Tri-Tip Roast

A holiday alternative for Prime Rib. Tri-Tip is the perfect holiday dinner because of it's faster cooking time and it's rich and beefy taste.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tri-tip roast (3 -4 lbs.)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary or thyme
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Optional: 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, Splash of Red Wine Vinegar, and 1 C. Beef Broth

  1. Pat the roast dry. Rub it with olive oil, then mix all the spices together and coat evenly on all sides.
  2. Let it sit for 15–30 minutes at room temperature (or up to overnight in the fridge for extra flavor).
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  4. Heat a cast iron or oven-safe pan over medium-high heat. Sear tri-tip 3–4 minutes per side until browned.
  5. Transfer pan to the oven.
  6. Roast for 20–30 minutes, depending on thickness, until internal temp reaches: 130°F for medium-rare. 140°F for medium
  7. Remove and tent with foil for 10–15 minutes.
  8. Slice against the grain for max tenderness.
  9. Drizzle with a quick au jus: warm beef broth + Worcestershire + a splash of red wine vinegar.
